A true coffee-table book, The Complete Book of Watercolour 2024 is a meticulously crafted publication, spanning 182 pages.
Printed with precision and bound with a square-glued spine on high-quality 130 g/m2 paper, this book is designed to be a cherished addition to both your studio and library.
Moreover, it serves as an ideal GIFT for your partner.

This book, which is the fruit of many years’ experience, brings together in its various chapters all the ingredients that you will need to get your paintings right each time. Some readers may find it too technical and others not technical enough – although the latter will not be numerous, but each time you pick up this volume, as you develop your painting skills, you will realise that every piece of information it contains is useful. As time goes by and you become more experienced, you will find yourself dealing with the same sorts of issues, but on a different level. I hope this book will be your constant companion and always be by your side to provide the answers you need whatever your level. The hardest task awaits: creating paintings which express who you truly are. Be proud of the progress you make and, if you take things one step at a time, you will certainly get there in the end. Everybody does if they are prepared to make the effort. Place your trust in your own ideas and creativity. The path to being an artist is exciting, so don’t try and cut corners but enjoy every minute. As Jerald Silva so aptly and poetically said: “My paintings are simply footprints of where I’ve been.” I could wish you nothing better than that your paintings too become like footprints on the path you have walked. No artist could hope for more. JG

CONTENTS:

Partie 1: Getting started or starting to paint again and developing your potential
Chapter 1: Priming your potential
Chapter 2: Get motivated and inspired again
Chapter 3: Is your painting affecting your health?
Chapter 4: Material

Partie 2: Technique: Theory and practice
Chapter 5: Mass (shapes)
Shape is a vital component in a composition. Shapes constitute the foundations or the skeleton of the painting and just like the human skeleton, play an essential role in carrying or supporting other elements. Shapes or masses provide the structure on which the rest of the painting can rely, therefore allow the whole to function in harmony.
Chapter 6: Tonal values
You could compare a painting’s tonal values to a melody. Values and shape work together to determine the different parts that constitute the design of a painting. They create the melody, injecting visual music pauses that give rhythm to the painting.
Chapter 7: The practical use of colour
Chapter 8: Colours
We all love colour but shape and values, as we have just seen, remain the two fundamental elements in a painting. regardless, colour still often gets all of the recognition.
Chapter 9: 7 secrets revealed to create your own masterpiece
Chapter 10: Composition and subject treatment
Composition is a subject that entails numerous constraints: control, discipline, preliminary sketches, time spent thinking, technique etc. But these qualities alone are simply not enough and do not guarantee the success
of the finished painting. Art is like music in that sense: it is technique which provides the foundations to ideas, emotions and creativity.

Part 3: How to develop your artistic path
Chapter 11: 20 questions to ask yourself if you want to be sure your painting is finished
Chapter 12: The five stages in the cycle of progress. Why I’m not getting the results I want
Chapter 13: Identify your painting strengths & weaknesses, and act upon them.
