Official catalogue of the exhibition "Turner le sublime héritage", at the Grimaldi Forum Monaco

Turner's decisive influence on painting, and by extension his legacy, will be set against interpretations of the sublime by major contemporary artists such as Richard Long, Olafur Eliasson, Cornelia Parker, Jessica Warboys, John Akomfrah, Katie Paterson and Mark Rothko, revealing the undeniable influence of the great English painter on new generations of artists.

The authors:

David Blayney Brown began his career at the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, where he was in charge of the Prints and Drawings Department from 1975 and where he developed his passion for works on paper. His catalogue of English drawings at the Ashmolean was published in 1982.
Joining the Tate Gallery in 1986, he specialised in Turner's work, contributing to the online catalogue of Turner's sketchbooks, drawings and watercolours, and organising or co-curating numerous exhibitions, including 'Late Turner: Painting Set Free' (2014-2015), 'Turner's Modern World' (2020-2022) and international touring exhibitions. He became Senior Curator of Historic British Art at Tate Britain.
Retired in 2021, he is now a freelance writer and curator. He has published and lectured in the UK and internationally. His books include Romanticism (Phaidon Art & Ideas, 2000).
